Successful Fall Clinic

Post Event Summary

Event Title: Montgomery Little League Fall Combine powered by Diamond Sports Academy

Date: 11/18/2023

Location: West Montgomery County Park baseball fields, Montgomery, TX

Overview:

The Montgomery Little League organized a comprehensive baseball clinic at the West Montgomery County Park baseball fields in Montgomery, TX. The event aimed to provide skill development and training for Little League baseball players across various divisions, including Tee-ball, advanced Tee-ball, Coach Pitch, Minors, Intermediate, and Jr./Sr. Divisions.  A secondary but equally important outcome is to build the relationship between the Montgomery High School Booster Club and Montgomery Little League as well as provide an opportunity for the High School players to give back to their community.

Facilitators and Contributors:

The clinic was conducted under the guidance of Coach Lance Miles from the esteemed Diamond Sports Academy in Conroe, TX. Moreover, drills and sessions were skillfully administered by the enthusiastic and talented members of the Montgomery High School baseball team.

Attendance and Volunteer Support:

The event witnessed an impressive turnout, with a total of 130 eager and enthusiastic young players participating in the two-session event. While some divisions had much lower turnout rates than others the overall turnout was nearly what we had expected for the first iteration of this event. The success of the clinic was further amplified by the generous support and dedication of 17 Montgomery High School baseball players who volunteered their time and expertise. Additionally, the invaluable assistance of 5 Board Members from Montgomery Little League added significant value to the smooth functioning of the event. Coach Lance Miles of Diamond Sports academy provided instruction and feedback to the High School players prior to the players arrival and was also instrumental in leading the kids at various times during their drills.

Outcome and Achievements:

The clinic proved to be a tremendous success, offering valuable coaching and mentorship to aspiring baseball players in the community. Participants received comprehensive training, honed their skills, and experienced the joy of the game under the guidance of experienced coaches and volunteers. The general attitude of the players, parents, and volunteers was exceptionally positive with many compliments and thanks for providing this event.

Areas for Improvement:

While the event was deemed a success, certain areas for improvement have been identified for future events. These areas primarily focus on refining logistical aspects and enhancing certain training modules to provide an even more enriching experience for the participants.

  1. Tee-ball and Advanced Tee ball should be limited to no longer than 90 minutes.

  2. At the beginning of each session, all participants should participate in an opening introduction and stretch before splitting into smaller groups.

  3. Coach Pitch, Minors, Intermediate and Jr./Sr. Should be no longer than 2.5 hours in length.

  4. Time should be reserved after all the drills are completed for a large, division-wide free play game with the High School and Little League players interacting.

  5. For Spring events, having a way to easily identify players from the stands would be beneficial to prospective coaches

  6. Players need to register prior to the event to give us a better idea of attendance in advance of the event.

  7. If time permits, having fewer events going simultaneously would allow the volunteers to split players into more, smaller groups each working on a different drill or skill set.

  8. Having the Fall event planned to ALL be the same day, with a makeup/ rainout date would help improve attendance.

  9. More communication directly from the League to the Parents, in addition to the messages the Coaches should be sending parents would help attendance.

  10. Lunch needs to be available and in-place from a trusted source at a dedicated break time for the volunteers.

Conclusion:

The Montgomery Little League Fall Combine was a resounding success, fostering a positive and encouraging environment for young athletes to develop their baseball skills. The collaborative efforts of Coach Lance Miles, the Montgomery High School baseball team, volunteers, and Board Members were instrumental in making this event a memorable and impactful experience for all involved. We fully expect to continue to build on and improve on the successes from this even in future seasons.

Acknowledgments:

Montgomery Little League extends its heartfelt gratitude to all the participants, volunteers, coaches, and contributors who made this event possible. Your dedication and support were fundamental in creating a thriving learning environment for our Little League baseball players.
